Common causes of washing machine problems and how to solve them

How to Solve Problems with Your Washing Machine

Your washing machine might not give you the best results for various reasons. Some of these issues are common and can be easily fixed, while others may require professional assistance.

So, what to do if your Beko washing machine is not starting as usual?

If your washing machine has stopped working properly, try pressing and holding the start/pause/cancel button for three seconds. This quick fix might get things back on track!

If that doesn’t work, here are some of the most common causes of washing machine problems and how to fix them:

Check your water pressure

If the supply of water to your washing machine is too weak, this may cause issues such as extended cycle times. To test that your water supply is strong enough:

  1. Turn on the cold tap situated nearest to where your Beko washing machine is installed.
  2. Measure the water flow rate. At least one litre in seven seconds is required.
  3. If the flow rate is less, you need a plumber to check your water line.

Check the water inlet hose

If your Beko washing machine’s water inlet hose has become kinked or twisted, it may result in insufficient water getting into the drum. To check if this is a problem:

  1. Check that the hose is not twisted or kinked.
  2. Ensure that the connectors on either end of the hose are securely fastened to the mains water and your washing machine and that they are not leaking.
  3. Check both inlets for blockages

Check the pump filter is clean

To make sure it isn’t blocked or stuck, just follow these steps:

  1. Put down a towel or similar to protect your flooring and have a container to hand to catch any water that leaks out when you remove the pump filter.
  2. The pump filter is housed behind a flap on the front of the machine.
  3. Open the flap and rotate the filter anti-clockwise until it can be easily removed.
  4. Some models have an emergency drain hose located next to the filter. Pull the drainage hose out from its seat and then pull out the stopper from the end of the hose and drain the water into a container. Then, refit the stopper and place the drainage hose back into its seat before removing the filter.
  5. Be careful of any water that may also come out when you remove the filter.
  6. Check for any dirt, hair, or small objects in the pump filter’s housing or on the filter itself.
  7. Remove any dirt or objects and then reinsert the filter before turning it clockwise.

Check the mains power

If your Beko washing machine does not switch on, there could be an electrical fault. Here’s how to test:

  1. Do not plug your washing machine into an extension socket. Only ever plug your washing machine into a mains wall socket.
  2. Test that the power socket is working by plugging in something you know is working, a light, for example.
  3. You can plug your washing machine in once you have ensured the socket is operational.
  4. If your washing machine does not turn on when connected to the power, replace the 13amp fuse in the plug. If the issue is unresolved, there may be an electrical fault

Are you loading your washing machine correctly?

Overloading and underloading your Beko washing machine can cause noise and drainage problems when you run a washing program. Here are some tips for correctly loading your machine to get the best results:

  1. Avoid putting just one highly absorbent laundry item into your washing machine – such as a dressing gown or towel. The item will absorb too much water causing excessive movement of the washing machine while running. Add some other small laundry items to the drum to balance the load.
  2. Check any pockets to ensure no loose items, such as coins or hairclips, could cause damage or problems to the machine. These issues include slow draining, increased noise, and extended cycle times or damage.
  3. Turn any clothes with a zipper inside out to minimise noise and scratching to other garments in the drum and to preserve colour in your clothes.
  4. Do not overload the appliance, as this could cause the washing machine to be unbalanced and affect washing results. You should be able to comfortably fit your hand into the top of the drum when you have loaded all your laundry in.
  5. When you close the door, ensure no laundry items are stuck between the door and the rubber gasket.

If you're experiencing recurring problems despite following these tips, it may be time to evaluate the age of your machine. Learn how long a washing machine should last.

Is the childlock function activated?

If your Beko washing machine turns on, but you can’t use any of the buttons, here’s how to check if child-lock is on:

  1. 1. If your washing machine has a digital display, it will tell you that child-lock is on when you press any button by displaying C ON.
  2. Hold the button or two buttons indicated with the child-lock padlock symbol for three seconds to turn off the child-lock function.
  3. Once pressed, the child-lock function will deactivate, and the buttons will be operational again.

Is the delay function activated?

Your Beko washing machine will not start a cycle if the delay function is set. To rectify this issue, you will need to cancel the delay function. View our instructions on how to set and cancel the delay function.
