With a solid hotplate hob, the pans used should have a flat base. This is to allow maximum contact with the solid plate and to allow better distribution of heat. It is unsafe to use a pan that has a curved base as it is unstable on the hotplate.
If you have a cooker with an induction hob, you will need to use induction compatible pans for it to work. For more information, please read our dedicated FAQ that explains which pans can be used on induction hobs.
